LIC Vs. M.C.JAIN - DISMISSAL OF SLP 809/2014

The news of dismissal of LIC's (yet) another attempt to prolong litigation and agony to Senior Pensioners, comes as cool breeze. The top echelons of LIC acting under the totally untenable wrong directives of bureaucracy in Ministry must rethink atleast now.

Even from a purely human angle, whose suffering are they prolonging? Were not these officers the same ones who served LIC faithfully and devotion ? At this advanced age don't they deserve a sympathetic response from LIC? Why quote the scriptures like Vishnu Sahasranama and repeat " Yogakshemam Vahamyaham," when you do not care for Yogakshema of your own employees? You top managers are not like those petty managers in a small industry or commercial establishment that feel it will be correct to deny dues to the employees and workers. Time to assert yourselves.

Now another humorous side to this victory. It is often said Victory has many fathers while defeat is an orphan. So it is not surprising to see everybody rushing to claim victory.

I am reminded of a particular political activist whom I knew when I was active in trade unions. In a particular locality of the town I resided people were worried about lack of sufficient electric street lights. There were representations and threats of agitation. Finally the Electricity Dept. decided to erect more electric poles. When the ground was being dug for erection of poles, this particular gentleman used to go near the spot and stand there while the work was being executed. That would give an impression to the residents that this politician was personally responsible for the achievement. He was not seen anywhere during the first stage of representation and agitation. When results came he was promptly there to show his presence.

There will always be people like him. It is for the masses to show them their place. There were many such episodes which I remember. When Pension was achieved for LIC employees, did not those who opposed the present form of pension also claim victory?

AIRIEF and other flags were flying fullmast even before and after 1998. AIRIEF circular
says they "supported Asthana when he became successful in getting a favourable judgment."
