Dear Editor,

This refers to Shri Aggarwal's mail under the caption 'Jain case deplorable compliance by LIC' substantiated by Shri Asthana in his mail.

According to my remembrance the synopsis of the Jaipur HC judgement in MC Jain case : The petitioner has now been declared entitled for revision of pay scale as per notification dated 18-7-1996 with consequential benefit. ( Revision of pay scales retrospectively comes into effect from 1-8-1992 according to the court judgement).

As MC Jain retired on 31-3-1993 LIC should have paid the difference in salary after refixation of salary from 1-8-1992 to 31-3-1993 as the revised pay scale has come into effect from 1-8-1992 according to the court order.

Pension has to be accordingly revised from 1-11-1993 and paid till date. Interest at 10 % has to be paid for the arrears not paid till the date of settlement. 

I wonder how the figure Rs. 12500 was arrived at. The figure should have been much more.

MC Jain court order, according to our own Chairman's contention, relates to select group of pensioners who have retired between 1-8-1992 and 31-3-1993 and when he met our representatives confessed that there are only a total of 41 cases and LIC will soon implement the court order in these cases. 

But nothing happened so far and not even a semblance of action being initiated. In the meanwhile some beneficiaries known to me left this world.

Where lies the solution ?

CORPORATE ESPIONAGE - RI(ea)L WAY

The Delhi Police crime branch on Thursday said it had unearthed a corporate espionage racket following the arrest of five persons who allegedly leaked confidential documents from the Union ministry of petroleum.

The Delhi Police also raided the local office of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Sources said an employee at RIL’s Delhi office was being questioned in connection with the case.

RIL has been locked in a dispute with the oil ministry after it was made to give up a portion of the gas fields in the Krishna-Godavari basin, and the two sides are scheduled to begin an arbitration process.

Addressing the media on Thursday evening, Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi said: “On Tuesday night, police received information that some persons had sneaked into Shastri Bhawan (at about 11pm). Our team laid a trap outside and waited. After about two hours, when they came out and met their third associate, we nabbed them. Their interrogation later led to the arrest of two others.”

Though the police refused to disclose the nature of the leaked documents, source said the papers pertained to pricing and other policy matters relating to the petroleum ministry. (the hindustan times)

THIS IS TO INFORM YOU OF THE MOCKERY AND DISRESPECT
PLAYED BY LIC AND DISRESPECT AND MEAN ATTITUDE TOWARDS
THE PENSIONERS. SHRI MC JAIN RETIRED AS RM ON 31/3/1993 

BUT HIS PAY WAS NOT REVISED AND SO THE PENSION. HE, 

THEREFORE, FILED WRIT PETITION THAT HIS PAY BE FIXED 

IN THE NEW PAYSCALE ON 1/8/1993 AND THEN HIS PENSION 

BE REVISED. LIC HAS LOST THE CASE BEFORE THE SINGLE 

JUDGE, THEN THEIR APPEAL WAS DISMISSED BY THE DIVISION 

BENCH BY LONG JUDGMENT AT THE ADMISSION STAGE ITSELF 

WITHOUT ISSUE OF NOTICE AND THEIR SLP HAS ALSO BEEN 

DISMISSED. IN THE WRIT PETITION FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF 

THE JUDGMENT, NOTICES WERE DIRECTED TO BE ISSUED ON 

MONDAY THE 16TH AND THE SAME WERE SERVED TODAY. 

TODAY MR JAIN RECEIVED A LETTER THAT TOWARDS ARREARS 

OF DIFFERENCE OF PENSION FROM NOVEMBER 1993 TO FEBRUARY 

2014 THEY HAVE DEPOSITED AN AMOUNT OF RS. 12500 OR SO. NO 

CALCULATION SHEET HAD BEEN PROVIDED TO HIM. HE WAS 

DRAWING PENSION ON THE MAXIMUM OF ZM'S SCALE LESS THAN 

3000 AND AFTER REVISION HIS BASIC PENSION WAS TO BE MORE 

THAN 5500/-. THEREFORE , IT IS MOCKERY. IN CASE THIS AMOUNT 

OF RS 12500 WAS PAYABLE THEN WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 

SPENDING LAKHS OF RUPEES ON THE LITIGATION. IT COULD HAVE 

GRACEFULLY DONE THAT. BUT THEY ARE MORE INTERESTED IN
HARASSING THE SENIOR CITIZEN PENSIONERS.

HOWEVER THE STUBBORN ATTITUDE OF LIC/FM/GOVT MUST CHANGE BEFORE WE GET FULL JUSTICE.

NO MONKEY BUSINESS !

No monkey business—Couple wills property to their pet monkey. Brijesh and his wife in Lucknow were childless. 

They bought a monkey for RS 300 from their neighbor a monkey named Tintin as it was ill-treated by the owner. When it died a year later they adopted another monkey and named it Chunmam and looked after it as their own child and a room in the house with AC and a swinging cradle was provided for the monkey’s comfort.. 

After Chunmam came to their house the couple’s business enterprise prospered getting them lot of wealth and therefore they named their firm Chunmam enterprise.They got Chunmam married to a female Betti owned by another person. 

Every year on their wedding anniversary the couple host a dinner for 100 people besides feeding other monkeys in the area. The couples say that ever since the monkey came to their house they have prospered and so it is their duty to ensure that they are looked after well. Not only that they have set up a Trust called Chunmam and bequeathed their property by a will and the Trust will spend the money for the welfare of monkeys.

There are people in this world to reward a monkey with their affection and benevolence.There are people in our midst who have struggled and sweated to bring name and fame in the place of their working and brought it to the pinnacle of glory. Will their loyalty and hard work get recognized and they be taken care of at least in the fag end of their life.?. Who should answer this ?.

The above incident really happened in Rae Bareli district in LUCKNOW and reported in a newspaper.

FIVE LAC CRORES REVENUE FOREGONE ANNUALLY

Revenue foregone on Excise/Customs,Direct Taxes and Indirect Taxes by the Central Gov't every year is about Rs5Lac Crores and for the last 9 years, more than Rs30LacCrores lost

Subsidies Vs Revenues Forgone

The Revenue Foregone in Excise/Customs, Direct/Indirect Taxes exceeds Rs5Lac Crore every year. OROP requires Rs8000Cr and Updation of Bank Pensioners Rs1200Cr annually! Gov't after Gov't is so generous towards the Corporates but never kind to the reasonable demands of Pensioners!

The updation cost of Rs1200Cr can be well taken care of by the Respective Pension Funds in Banks. Pension Funds are flush with Rs1.58Lac Crores generating a Net surplus of nearly Rs1200Cr every year. Will the FM look into the facts and not always be carried away by the ill-borne views of the Babus in the North Block?

"It is confirmed that OROP file has finally reached MOD.

Following decisions have been taken in the meeting held on 17 Feb 15.

OROP will be as per approved definition.
In most of cases ESM will get fixed at highest of their rank pay band.
OROP equalization will be done annually.

Some issues of Major's pension are under discussion and will be sorted out soon."

Let us hope that the FM may not disappoint the Veterans in his Budget Speech on 28th Feb!

R.S. Gopalan had a ready wit always. He bubbled with effervescence of vintage champagne and it was unthinkable not to laugh when Gopalan was around. During his last days he fell inside a moving bus, cracked his hip bone and was compelled to wear a belt always. He told me, “They say, people died with their boots on. In my case they will say, “Gopalan died with his belt on”. In a few days he passed away. 

For long years he worked in Economic Department Library. There were two assistants in that library, Shri.Shah and Shri.Singh. An associate from the library, who had resigned and gone abroad came on a holiday and visited the library. The first question he asked was, “Are Shah and Singh still in the library?,” Gopalan’s prompt response -- “Mr. Sadhwani, Once upon a time Shah and Singh were features of the library. Now they are fixtures.”

One of the highly respected officials of the Economic Department was Dr T.K. Velayudham, son of a humble station master in Andhra. TKV held the Chair in Monetary Economics established by RBI in the Bombay University. When he was my Deputy Director, he took part in world–wide essay competition conducted by Banker’s Magazine, London. He bagged the first prize. The next year also the coveted first prize was captured by him. 

When the magazine announced a competition for the third year in succession they wrote a letter to him requesting him not to participate and leave the prize for others. He retired as Principal of B.T.C.
