EXPECTING A BREAK-THROUGH

Ever since we (I along with Shri Amritlal our VP at Delhi) called on Shri. R.K Takru the Secretary (Financial Services)Govt of India  (also a key board member from the Govt), to represent our Federation’s long standing demands, I have been following up on the resultant progress.  Our fervent appeal to him was ‘to break the stalemate without waiting for judicial decisions, and end the decades long suffering of pensioners’.  He responded positively and said that he would look into the problems if they are genuine. In fact, he called for details in our very presence. We had stated in our earlier circular dated 30-10-2013 that the matters were well received at his end, and also expressed hopes of positive results.

GN SRIDHARAN elected General Secretary.

We would now like to inform you that the matters are receiving serious attention at the appropriate levels as learnt from very reliable sources. It is also learnt that the development is a sequel to our above efforts. This is indeed a vindication of the collective sentiments expressed by our representatives from time to time and also in the GC Meeting held recently at Mumbai.
As known to all, we have been pressing for removal of DR anomaly affecting the pre-1997 pensioners and on consequent updation on a priority basis and our two Writ Petitions were also praying for it. We are reasonably sure to get its solution to the great relief of very aged pensioners.

We have also reiterated our demand for general up gradation for all pensioners during our meeting with Secretary FS. Let us wait to see if LIC’s Board Resolution on 24 11 2001 is implemented in sprit to ensure uniform DR for all retires irrespective of date of retirement.

We have also been appealing for increase in pension on a rational basis starting with ad hoc basis, and we have to wait to know the final decision. Whatever comes out, very soon, is certainly a step

towards breaking the stalemate the pensioners got into, and this will pave the way for achieving all our legitimate aspirations.  It is a great relief that we have been able to move the Govt. to relax their stiff policy of clubbing our DR issue with that of bank retirees. We are happy at the prospective success of ceaseless efforts on the above.

You will agree we should not miss any opportunity in view of the facts that our appeals in the apex court will take 2 or 3 years if not more for decision and we are too old to wait indefinitely in the emerging poll scenario and the consequent uncertainty. Our efforts will no doubt continue till all our reasonable demands are achieved.

For your information: (1) Our WP in Kerala is slated to be heard Dec on 13th Dec ’13 (2) it is learnt that LIC Board also meets on 13th. We will promptly keep all members informed of developments.  We do hope the New Year 2014 will be brighter.

With Greetings,                                                                                           Yours sincerely
                                                                                                                    (G.N.  Sridharan)
