It all happened one day. So accidentally. It was just another day for me. My usual activity. I was making casual searches. Surfing on internet.
- I typed LIC. That is LIC of India. You know, a pensioner cannot get any information from LIC site.
- Then I searched: lic pensioner. And I found a few sites. It was here I found LIC Pensioners Chennai. I went through the same. Immediately I got the idea, why not I start a blog for Calicut.
- Yes, let me tell you friends, I started the blog almost immediately. A couple of days later on a November evening, I published my first post. That was 19th of November 2011.
- You know it, 19th of November of this year is still far away. I have completed barely 20 months of uploading my first post. But I have satisfaction. Satisfaction for having done something. Of having contributed my mite for the simple cause of 'communication'. What success? Only you will be able to say. I have so far uploaded 478 posts. 300 posts during the last 7 months of 2013 itself, an average of 42 posts in a month ! There are about 96,000 page views. No other LIC pensioner blog has this record.
In the evening of a pensioner's life, when the twilight from the west is just visible, I sit here waiting to hear from you. I have 'correspondents' across the country. At all places. They send mails to me regularly. My only work here is to discover 'news' in the mails received here. I compile it. I edit it. Put your words in a different format in a presentable form. And, of course, send it back to you through the medium of my blog. That has been my work in the past. It is my present work. It will continue to be my work in the days to come too. It was Shri HK Aggarwal who brought me the idea of changing the name of the blog. That was indeed appreciation of my work. When he wanted me to come out of 'Calicut', I lost no time in accepting his idea. He had sent a few names in his letter. Out of that, I had a fascination for the titles 'Insurance Waves' and more particularly 'INSURANCE NEWS ABHI TAK'. But I found that searches with the word 'insurance' always took me to insurance and insurance companies and never I reached my targeted group 'Insurance pensioners'.
In this area, I was inclined to go with Shri RK Viswanathan. He wrote, "the name should be easy to remember, easy to open the web site, not too complicated, very simple and crisp etc.". That provided me with the criteria for selection. I was convinced that any name selected should have "LIC" and "Pensioners".
- Shri M. Arunachalam, Shri BS Gopalakrishna, Shri CL Janakiram and others came out with the suggestion that the name suggested by Shri RK Viswanathan 'LIC PENSIONERS CHRONICLE' answers the criteria and as such it should be accepted. The other day, Shri SC Kapur suggested the name LIC PENSIONERS DIARY. Chronicle, as the dictionary meaning goes, is record, history, account, annals, journal, story, narrative or diary. And so the name LIC PENSIONERS CHRONICLE has all the necessary ingredients or attributes for this humble venture.
Accordingly necessary site booking has been done. There are two options before the Editor now. One is to continue the present blog address 'licpensionerscalicut.blogspot.com' and reach LIC PENSIONERS CHRONICLE or to export the whole blog to the new site LIC Pensioners Chronicle with the change of address. For the time being, however, the route address is being retained as 'licpensionerscalicut'. We will think of exporting the blog later, if necessary.
So, friends, that is the end of search. Here's the announcement: the blog name 'LIC PENSIONERS CALICUT' will be changed to LIC PENSIONERS CHRONICLE soon.
