Moderators of myth
This refers to 'Busting the resurfaced Mahishasura Myth' by Amulya Ganguli (March 8, FPJ) There are extremists and moderators. Ganguli belongs to the latter category. Ramayana is a historical treatise penned by a great scholar Valmiki. Periyar Ramasamy knew that his hero, Ravana , was not an ordinary soul and that he was a Shiv bhakt. It cannot also be denied that Mahishasura, Bhasmasura etc., worthy of veneration, are icons in the eyes of a few, who were also Shiv bhakts. Ravana and others too got moksha.

Circumstances make persons like Periyar rationalists or iconoclasts. Some section of Tamilians claim that Periyar worshiped the idols of Lord Shiva, Lord Rama daily in a room where none was allowed entry.
