subbu: I am chuckling seeing your statement that the cost of benefit is negligible, Ganga Raju Sir !

The legal expenses in fighting the pensioners' cases is much much more than annual cost of pensions even on upgradation. But LIC u know always stands on a legal footing. And what is legal is what is conveyed to them by the bureaucrat in the GOI. Cost of upgradation is a pittance against the meal coupons value to the employees. 

But who cares? Even now LIC does not think of a voluntary donation to CM Relief Fund, when other Corporate bodies have freely donated for Chennai floods. It requires a heart.
