A Memorandum to Sri Prakash Javadekar,Minister for Information & Broadcasting

25/09/14.

To
Sri Prakash Javadekar,
Hon. Minister for Information & Broadcasting,
New Delhi.
Sub: Memorandum regarding grievances of Retired Employees of Life Insurance Corporation of India.

Respected Sir,

We submit the following for your kind and favourable consideration and for immediate action. The pay scales of LIC employees were revised in the years 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2007. But in the case of retired employee’s pensions were not revised.

This has created several classes of pensioners on the basis of dates of retirement and grave discrimination and injustice is being done to them. The pensions of retired employees of LIC have not been revised for the last 21 years. In spite of several representations the LIC management did not move. In these circumstances writ no 654 of 2007 was filed in the matter of removal of discrimination.

This writ petition was allowed by the Rajasthan High Court by its judgement dated 12-01-2010.The appeal of LIC challenging this judgement was dismissed by the division bench of Rajasthan High Court on 21-01-2011.

The review petitions of LIC in this regard were also dismissed on 19-08-2011.The Delhi High Court and Punjab High Courts passed similar judgments on this issue on the basis of the judgement of Rajasthan High Court.

The special leave petition of LIC in Supreme Court was also dismissed on 8th August; 2013.The Supreme Court rejected the prayer of LIC for stay on the operation of the judgement of Rajasthan High Court and ruled that there shall be no stay on the operation of the judgement. Still LIC has been trying to dodge implementation of the verdicts of courts in favour of LIC pensioners.

On 22ND August 2014 a delegation of All India Retired Insurance Employees Federation led by Sri Krishna Murari Lal Asthana met Sri G.S.Sandhu, Secretary Department of Financial services and Sri Ravi Shankar, Secretary Pension cell and submitted a memorandum on our issues.

They informed our delegation that they would take up the matter with the LIC Chairman. I now pray your good self to ensure that proper directions are given to LIC to implement the court judgements for pension up gradation to retired employees.
Representations from Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Machilipatnam units of AIRIEF were submitted on this issue, which are now with the Finance Ministry. We regard the Government of Bharatiya Janata Party as a Government of the people, by the people and for the people. We trust that justice will be done to pensioners of LIC.

Thanking you,
K.K.D.Hanumantha Rao,
