SP SOOD, CHANDIGARH

It's all about
learning to dance in the rain.

Dear Editor,

So far discussion on LIC Chronicle has centered mainly around the implications of various Court Orders and resultant disappointment for those who were expecting instant results – may be their expectations sky rocketed after each pronouncement. Now thanks to ‘The Aggrieved Pensioner”, at least we can change the track of our discussion… and share his ‘long lasting agony’. Sh. H.K. Aggarwal says ‘let us be positive.’ Agreed.

Court pronouncements ( from Jaipur HC to the Hon’ble SC right from 2010 till date ) so far have been like the “assurances held out by a beloved to her desperate lover. A couplet by legendary Poet Ghalib aptly describes our predicament::

koee mere dil se pooche terey teer-e-neemkash ko
ye khalish kahaan se hotee jo jigar ke paar hota

( Let someone ask me about your half-drawn arrow aimed at my heart, which though did not pierce through it, but has become the cause of tingling pain.)

It is astonishing that instead of directing our anger against LIC or the complex and intricate legal system, we are throwing stones at each other. By now we should have learnt that LIC will do anything but implement SB Orders in letter and spirit. On the other hand it is proving to be a real challenge to get justice through the Courts. Then who are the monsters causing pain and agony ? Instead we are searching for easy scapegoats. If I too stretch it a little further, I will have sufficient reasons to laugh at myself.

After retirement in 2002, everything was going normal. In true Hindu traditions, it was a ‘vaanprastha’ life. Then all of a sudden Shri KML Asthana emerged with judgement/orders from different courts in favour of the pensioners. The second person responsible for my present state is Hon’ble Justice Bhandari who delivered a lengthy judgement on 12th January, 2010 which is elaborate and unambiguous. The hard truth is that no other court of the land could disagree with it. So there lies the real cause of our being aggrieved and restless. Naa hota baans, naa bazti bansuri. Now how to reconcile ? Instead of lamenting, let us stand up and resolve that our legal battle will continue till last word on Justice Bhandari’s historic judgement is pronounced.

So dear pensioners, “Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about

learning to dance in the rain.”
