" AR MENON WILL BURN HIS FINGERS!"

MANUAL PREPARED
WITHOUT "INJURING
FINGERS"!

My life, my struggles.

Shri Mathulla, AO was right and justified in his fears that Shri "AR Menon will burn his fingers" for allowing an Assistant to prepare a housing loan Manual of about 200 pages and publishing the same.
Shri PG Gangadharan, author
'OYH" Admn.

It was published as an official Office Manual.  Shri Menon would have been held squarely responsible for the mistakes in the manual.  The poor Assistant could escape as he was, after all, an Assistant.

The year was 1983.  The only office manual available was MANUAL FOR MORTGAGES.  And those who enjoyed working with dusty cyclostyled forms stood solidly behind Shri Mathulla.  They wanted to see Shri Menon injured.  But their prayers did not yield fruition.

       ZO EXAMINES MANUAL

After a few months, Shri Srinivasan, DM(Accounts) who was in charge of HPF Dept. received a  DO letter from Shri R. Gopalakrishnan, then RM(L&HPF).  It said, the Zonal Office has come to know that Kozhikode Division has published an office manual entitled 'Own Your Home' Scheme Administration.

The Manual was examined by Zonal Office and it was found there were one or two "small mistakes" which could be manually corrected.  Since the Zonal Office wanted to distribute the Manual to all the Divisions under its control,he requested that 21 copies may be sent to him.

ZO LETTER AN APPRECIATION, But you want copy?  "No sir, we can't give !"

The Department was quiet.  No celebrations...  Shri AR Menon didn't know these developments.  He was as cool as ever.  However the poor Assistant who had the 'misfortune' of authoring the book approached the Stenographer to DM (Accounts) for a copy of ZO letter to keep it with him as an appreciation letter.  But he won't oblige.  How could a copy of official letter be given, he argued.  "Can you atleast show that letter to me,"poor Assistant was humble in his submission to the Stenographer Shri Parameswaran.  Stenographer obliged.

Assistant had just a glance of the letter.  He went to the typewriter on the next table and typed out the whole letter from memory and showed it to the stenographer:"Isn't the letter?". Steno. was a little perplexed!

The letter read: My dear Srinivasan, I have received......

One has to struggle to survive in an organisation!

Tail-piece: Who sent the Manual to RM and his 'good' intention behind it is still a mystery.
